Challenges sex workers face are almost always the result of criminalization, abusive working conditions and the setting of sex work (where it takes place). These challenges can be addressed by changing in the laws around sex work, extending labor law protections to sex workers, and/or promoting sex worker-led organizing.
This fact sheet looks at sex work in South Africa from this labor-centered view and explains why decriminalization is really the best way to make sure labor rights are introduced.
